TotalEnergies has just completed the installation of a #SolarPhotovoltaic (PV) rooftop to power and sustain an Alliance Select Foods International, Inc. facility in the Philippines!
As the 3rd largest tuna cannery in Southeast Asia, this PV installation will not only allow Alliance Select Foods to reduce their #CarbonFootprint and #Energy costs but provide them with a #CleanEnergySystem for the next 20 years without any upfront investment. 🙌

With over 1,400 panels totaling to a capacity of 600 kilowatt-peak (kWp), the #SolarProject is expected to generate 800 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity each year – reducing #CarbonEmissions by over 450 tons annually, the equivalent of taking more than 90 cars off the road! ⚡️

The use of solar energy is not new, its first use was observed as early as 1,500 BC when the Egyptians created the first pseudo sundial to tell the time thanks to the sun’s shadow.

It was a long time later, in the 19th century, that the French scientist Edmond Becquerel discovered the photovoltaic effect which allowed a new use of solar radiation: to produce electricity!

The first concrete application of photovoltaic panels was observed in the 1950s in the space industry. 🛰
